In 2020, KOC Electric successfully settled at the extra high voltage transformer market by developing the first stage of KEPCO low loss 154kV transformer (standard type, 1PH 20MVA) and supplying the product at major substations. Recently, the company successfully registered the product of high-efficiency 154kV transformer to KEPCO.
There are approximately 70 companies that manufacture distribution transformers in Korea, but the extra high voltage transformer market was dominated by a small number of conglomerates, due to entry barriers such as high technical difficulties, strict quality control, and facility investment costs
After the launch of the KEPCO low-loss transformer in last year, KOC Electric acquired the certificate of registration from the KHNP and 5 Korean power generation companies.
The high-efficiency 154kV transformer, which has been recently developed by KOC Electric is a second-stage loss improvement transformer, developed jointly by KEPCO and transformer manufacturers as a part of the national energy reduction policy.
It is an eco-friendly product that maximizes energy efficiency by drastically reducing 27% of transformer losses from 364kW to 264kW.
It will sequentially replace the low-loss transformers installed at nationwide substations.
